NIGERIAN PHILATELIC CLUB CALABAR CHAPTER
HISTORICAL BACKRGOUND:
The Nigerian Philatelic Club Calabar Chapter popularly address as The Calabar Stamp Club came to birth on the 24th day of July 1991 at NIPOST multi-purpose hall at the then NIPOST headquarters in Old Ikang Road, Calabar, Cross River State of Nigeria, following a National initiatives to established stamp clubs in every territories of the Nigerian postal service (NIPOST) for the promotion of the act of stamp collection in the country.
The aim was basically to motivate young and old citizens of Nigerians to collect stamps, preserve them for such reasons as history, culture and social wellbeing as well as a means of investment in the future. The club was charge with the responsibility to generate, motivate, accelerate, stimulate and, sustain the interest and create necessary awareness through information, education, dissemination and mobilization of the entire populace in Calabar and beyond towards an improved knowledge on Philately (Stamp Collection).
The club began with a total membership of about 18 and increase to more than about 300 members recently. Except for occasionally change of locations by some members once in a while the majority of collectors are still resident in Calabar including 3 founding members- Mr. Edwin Nnumolu (incumbent President), Mr. Edet Akpan (Vice President), and Mr. Emmanuel B. Effa (Ex-Officio member). Most of our recent members are listed in the page below.

FEBRUARY PHILATELIC MEETING OF CALABAR STAMP CLUB WITH DR. SIMON HEAP(U.K) AND STUDENTS STAMP CLUB OF TECHNICAL COLLEGE HELD IN CALABAR
![]() WORLD POST DAY CELEBRATION IN CALABAR 9th OCT 2010 The World Post day celebration in calabar was great and exciting. Held within the environment of the general post office witness in attendance dignitaries from the Ministry of Information and National reorientation in Calabar, CRS, the Area Postal Manager, Cross River State Territories as well as host of Nigerian Philatelic Club members and men of the press. Several Talks/Speeches were delivered on how to better the postal activities in Cross River State and transforming NIPOST into a Tourist delight. There was an extensive lecture on the role of Philately to the society and Nigerian international relations. Members could relate and interact freely with fellow collectors abroad and exchange so much as stamps, First Day Covers, Souvenir Sheet, Crown caps, Labels, banknotes, coins etc. The group photograph above summarizes the event of the day. establishment of Universal Postal Union. It is the foremost forum for
the cooperation among the postal services and the helps for ensuring a
really worldwide network of the latest services and products. South
Africa is the member of the Universal Postal Union.
